Understanding ISLAMISM:
The Ideology Fueling Terrorism
M. Zuhdi Jasser, MD
M. Zuhdi Jasser is a former U.S. Navy lieutenant commander. He is the
founder and chairman of the board of the American Islamic Forum for
Democracy (AIFD) based in Phoenix, Arizona. AIFD addresses the central
ideological conflict in the war on terror: separating the spiritual from the
political in Islam. A respected private-practice physician in Phoenix,
Arizona, and a decorated U.S. naval officer, Dr. Jasser is a frequent
columnist on Islamic affairs for the Arizona Republic and a regular
columnist and contributing editor for FamilySecurityMatters.org . He is
a frequent guest on the Fox News Channel and the "Glenn Beck" show
on CNN Headline News. He has also been published in The Washington
Times, Beliefnet and National Review. He is one of the moderate,
anti-Islamist Muslims featured in the PBS film, Islam v Islamists, produced
by ABG Films, Inc. In January 2008, Dr. Jasser was presented with the
2007 Director's Community Leadership Award by the Phoenix office of
the FBI.
Dr. Jasser believes that it is essential for devoted Muslims to lead the
ideological war against militant Islamism.
