human rights.

Park will celebrate Israel's
60th anniversary year
with weekend events Feb. 29 to
March 2. The temple's Community
of Learners hosts its 2008 visiting
scholar-in-residence from Israel,
Rabbi David Forman.
Forman is a leader in the civil
rights and religious pluralism
movements. He
founded both the
Israeli Rabbis
for Human
Rights and
the Jerusalem
Council for
Soviet Jewry. He
writes regularly
for the Israeli
Rabbi Forman
Hebrew and
English press.
Forman, a native of Boston,
moved to Israel 30 years ago. He
served as former director of the
Jerusalem office of the Union for
Reform Judaism and was instru-
mental in building programs that
bridge religious pluralism. He also
served as a deputy commander in
the Israeli army, receiving a medal
for distinguished service.
His four books are Israel

His topics as the scholar-in-

Facing Israel — Jew and Christian,
Jew and Muslim, Jew and Jew:'
The weekend is open to the pub-
lic. Events include a Shabbat dinner
at 6:30 p.m. Friday ($18) and 8
p.m. services; a Shabbat lunch and
learn at noon Saturday ($12) and
1:15 p.m. talk; and bagels and cof-
fee at 9:30 a.m. Sunday (free).
