ORT America, Inc. is a Jewish nonprofit organization
that supports a global network of schools and train-
ing programs in 58 countries that boast more than
3 million graduates to date. ORT educates individu-
als, impacts communities and improves the world.
Worldwide Jewish and secular communities are
strengthened in those towns and cities in which ORT
programs exist. The cutting edge education acquired
at ORT schools, colleges and international programs
provide marketable skills that enable students to
attain successful careers, become community lead-
ers and live with dignity.
Summary:
The Director is responsible for the administration
and fund development of the Michigan Region of
ORT America. This includes leadership develop-
ment, major gifts, new gifts, annual campaign and
special campaigns, as well as Board and Executive
Committee professional guidance and office opera-
tions and administration.
Specific duties include:
• Develop office procedures and supervise one full-
time development associate, two part-time program
coordinators, and one part-time office assistant.
• Manage Board and Executive Committee activ-
ities and special committees.
For example,
Nominating, Bylaws, Past Presidents Advisory
Committee
• Plan the annual campaign including the calendar
of events, levels of giving, assignments, pho-
nathons, materials and solicitor recruitment and
training, planned giving committee.
• Solicit Golden Circle and Major Gifts, sponsor-
ships and corporate and community support.
• Maintain contributor relations through personal
phone calls and meetings
• Support the campaign needs of the Hermelin ORT
Resource Center
• Develop high profile events and programs, which
will have future benefit to ORT by increasing the
financial productivity of the Region. Examples are
the Young Adult Initiative, the Student Ambassador
Program,
• Facilitate the unification of men's and women's
ORT chapters, including forming a merged Board
• Preparing educational materials for Region and
Chapters
• Public speaking to ORT constituencies as well as
outside organization
• Preparing leaders to speak on behalf of ORT as
well as training to preside over the organization's
board or committees.
General requirements
• Excellent writing and correspondence skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
needed to work effectively with all levels of man-
agement within ORT America, as well as with lay
leaders and external contacts
• Understands the importance of the Fund
Development function and is able to use discretion
in dealing with both internal and external contacts
• Must be a team player, self-motivated, and able to
make optimum use of time
• Must have the flexibility to work both with and
without supervision and an interest in and strong
commitment to the organization's mission
