T
V and club comedian Dave
Attell talks about his standup
routine with a warning.
"I don't have anything that's not
off-color," says Attell, who will appear
Friday evening, Feb. 8, at the Fillmore
in Detroit. "It's an adult show, not an
all-age show. It's not for children."
Attell, 43, who claims that his
standup comments would be bleeped
if they came to television, gained con-
tinuing broadcast attention through
his series Insomniac With Dave Attell.
The entertainer visited different cities
to meet up with people whose work or
social life kept them out in the dark-
ened hours.
"It was cool traveling around the
country and the world doing the
series," says Attell, who also has been
booked with nighttime's Jay Leno,
David Letterman and Conan O'Brien
shows. "I learned that everybody
wants to be on television.
"Every job has a late-night scene,
which is something I knew as a comic
on the road for 20 years. People who
work late at night — in factories or
coal mines or with the Coast Guard
— let you see people not drinking or
drunk but doing something."
Drinking is a big part of Attell's act.
"There are lots of Jews that are
funny, but there are few who are funny
and also drink," says the comedian,
who has appeared in Ann Arbor. "I
drink and talk and watch porn. This
is stuff I really do. I used to do some
