It takes two to tango — and with that in mind, dozens of young Jewish couples
gave a night of salsa dancing a whirl during a Latin-inspired evening sponsored
by the couples committee of the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit. A group of about 70 people gathered at the Polish
Cultural Center in Troy on Jan. 12 to sip sangria, nibble tapas and take part
in a group dance lesson given by Fernando "Fred" Caducio, who teaches at
Rhythm 'N' Shoes Ballroom Dance Studio and the Detroit Skating Club, both
in Bloomfield Hills, and the Link Ballet Studio in Troy among other locations.
"Fernando's very charming, and his enthusiasm really pumped everyone up," said
Michele Rosenblum of Birmingham, who co-chaired the event with Jennifer
Freedland of West Bloomfield. Following the lesson, those who were brave
enough took part in a dance competition. "There were definitely some men who
were a little hesitant at first," said Freedland. "But they were troupers!"
