OUR MOST ROMANTIC ISSUE OF THE YEAR
is brimming with lovely things to do, eat, see and more. Start
out with a hearty made-from-scratch brunch at Birmingham's
recently opened Maple Leaf Cafe (read our review in "All's
Fare" on page B8). In "The Buzz" (page B14), writer Jeanine
Matlow offers the scoop on what's romantic around town —
stunning lingerie for every woman, gorgeous gems from Israel
and where to find old-fashioned chocolates.
Looking for a soul-soothing indulgence? Check out the six
spas — all near a river, lake or ocean — in "On The Waterfront" (page B16). Or try
one or all five of the luscious (and easy-to-make) chocolate treats Annabel Cohen
has whipped up in "Melt Their Hearts" (page B20). Even in our monthly "Four
Questions" column, we perpetuated the romantic theme by putting our questions to
jeweler Richard Grinstein.
Lastly, we top off our month of romance by profiling Inez Garfield, a single
mother of four who founded Girls Night Out — a more-than-just-a-support
group for single women that meets at great restaurants ("There isn't one we haven't
tried," says Garfield) and other hot locales once a month to dish and have fun. Says
Garfield, "I believe in making as many friends as possible."
Happy Valentine's Day!

Above: Among the luxuries at Wisconsin's Sundara Inn & Spa is the Shiro Dhara, based on
India's 5,000-year-old healing science and concluding with a flow of therapeutic oils on the
"third eye," considered the window of the soul. For more spa picks, turn to page B16.
