MARION BARBAS, 85, of Oak Park,
died Jan. 19, 2008.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Richard and Dena
Barbas of Dearborn Heights; daugh-
ters, Terry Barbas of Oak Park, Wendy
Barbas of Southfield; grandchildren,
Robbie Korby, Jennifer Korby.
Mrs. Barbas was the beloved wife of
the late Nathan Barbas.
Contributions may be made to
American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic
Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076.
Services and interment at Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

NITA BARIT, 79, of
Southfield, died Jan.
17, 2008.
She was born in
Bay City, the young-
est daughter of Bella
and Isadore Hitow,
and raised her fam-

ily in Oak Park.
Mrs. Barit was
a lifelong member of ORT and a
member of Jewish War Veterans and
Hadassah. She and a few friends
formed the Bay City Girls group to
maintain close ties. She and her late
husband, Irving, were also members
of the Married Couples Club of Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
For many years, she sold invita-
tions and Jewish new year cards out
of her home. She also worked for
her nephew, Dick (Carole) Walker
of Farmington Hills, at his business,
Walker Metallurgical.
Mrs. Barit became one of the first
liver transplant recipients at the
University of Michigan. While hoping
for a few more years of life, she hung
on through several rejection episodes
to enjoy more than 16 additional years
with her new liver. She lived to see her
last three grandchildren born and was
applauded when she walked down the
aisle at her daughter Amy's wedding.
The prayers and support of many dear
friends and relatives kept her going
for years.
Mrs. Barit is survived by her lov-
ing children, Karin (Harry) Indig
of Seattle, Wash., Bonnee (Larry)
Woodberg of Southfield, Amy (Lloyd)
Altman of Clawson, and Larry Barit
of Madison Heights; brother, Abe
(Annette) Hitow of Bloomfield Hills,
sisters-in-law, Dee (Milt) Fishman of
West Bloomfield and Bernice Wilson
of West Bloomfield; loving grandchil-
dren, David and Stacy Indig, Bradley,
Jennifer and Allison Woodberg, Joshua

and Matthew Altman.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Irving Barit; sister of the late Hy, the
late Ruth and the late Ben; sister-in-
law of the late Sam Wilson.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Gift of Life Foundation.
Services and arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

ELAYNE BERNSTEIN, 72, of Livonia,
died Jan. 18, 2008.
She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, David and Lora
Miller of West Bloomfield, Scott and
Lori Miller of California; daughter
and son-in-law, Stacey and Mike Fifer
of Livonia; brother and sister-in-law,
Melvin and Jackie Tobin of Las Vegas,
Nev.; grandchildren, Shaye (Matt)
Nielson, Yale, Adam, Jake, Kiley and
Leighan; many other loving family
members and friends.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Dr. Yale Miller.
Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements
by Dorfman Chapel.

HENRY F. GESUND, 59, of
Farmington Hills, died Jan. 17, 2008.
He was born in Detroit, the young-
est son of the late William and the
late Ella Gesund, survivors of the
Holocaust. He was a fighter when
it came to dealing with his long-
term disease of diabetes. Among his
achievements, he graduated from
Wayne State University in 1993 with
a bachelor's degree in management
information systems. He was very
proud of this accomplishment and
was grateful to have been able to work
in the corporate world despite his
disabilities and handicaps. He loved
sports, movies and the theater.
Mr. Gesund is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly
and Scott Steiner of Rochester Hills;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie
and Anita Gesund of Farmington
Hills, George and Janne Gesund of
Boca Raton, Fla.; grandson, Zachary
Steiner; loving nieces, nephews,
cousins, other family members and
friends.
Contributions may be made
to Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation, 24359 Northwestern Hwy.,
Southfield, MI 48075. Interment at
Hebrew Memorial Park. Arrangements
by Hebrew Memorial Chapel.
