The Wrong Path
President George W. Bush and Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert are promot-
ing "peace in our time" ("Meaningful
Visit',' Jan. 17, A17). But despite the
drumbeat of publicity and endless
propaganda, the radical Arabs are not
now, or have ever been, interested in
peace.
They boast loudly and clearly their
desire is to annihilate Israel and
to exterminate the Jewish people.
To emphasize this point, they have
escalated their genocidal war even
while Bush was traveling in Israel to
sell his "peace" plan.
This is the reality: 4,000 missiles
were fired at Israel by the Arabs who
are occupying Gaza last year alone.
This year has witnessed increasing
barrages of missiles slamming into
Israel, causing injuries, damage and
spreading fear.
There are daily attacks against
motorists in Israel, daily attempted
armed incursions from Gaza, frequent
assaults against individuals — the
most recent of which were the mur-
ders of two hikers — and the frequent
capture of homicide bombers, which
fortunately have prevented mass casu-
alties.
Katyushas are once again being
fired into Israel from Lebanon,
although UNIFIL troops are supposed
to keep Hezbollah terrorists out of
missile range.
The Arabs surrounding Israel are
assisting Hamas in stockpiling a huge,
lethal arsenal and in building a terror-
ist army.
The mullahs in Iran, though not
Arab, are threatening Israel with a
nuclear Holocaust. The Arabs and
Islamic extremists are inciting hatred,
provoking violence and preparing for
war.
President Bush and Prime Minister
Olmert are living in fantasyland.
They are not giving us a "roadmap"
to peace, but they are paving the road
to death and destruction. Please God,
save us.

ADL Fights Hatred
As kids, we are taught that sticks
and stones will break our bones, but
names will never hurt us. As adults, we
know better.
Words and symbols are power-
ful weapons, particularly to evoke
extreme emotions.
White supremacists and radical hate
groups use their symbols as part of
their cultural armor to decorate their
bodies and separate themselves from
the general public and to get a rise
from people. They revel in the reac-
tions.
These tattoos and icons can convey
tremendous meaning and significance
in a compact, immediately recogniz-
able form. They project feelings of
hate or anger and give extremists a
sense of power and belonging, and in
victims, hate symbols instill fear and
insecurity.
The Anti-Defamation League under-
stands the devastating power of hate
symbols. As the most respected private
authority on extremism and domestic
terrorism, ADL understands that good
information is crucial in the fight
against hate.
ADL provides tools and training for
law enforcement agencies, schools and
synagogues so that the community
knows who they are up against and to
try to identify the gang or extremist
group.
The ADL applauds the Farmington
School District for taking their inci-
dents (Editor's Letter, "Silence Not
Golden," Jan. 17, page A5) and encour-
ages all schools, synagogues and
private citizens to report this kind
of behavior first to the proper legal
authorities and then to the ADL.We
should never ignore hated, bias and
bigotry.
We must bring it into the open,
examine it and then decry its exis-
tence. From history, we know this
behavior does not go away and should
not be hidden.
