ALVIN SKELLY, 91, of

Commerce Township,
died Dec. 23, 2007.
A retired deputy
superintendent of the
Detroit Public Schools,
Mr. Skelly received a
Ph.D. in education and
Skelly
also a Ph.D. in law. He
was a past president of
the Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning
and past president of Siesta Towers Condo
Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred
Skelly; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Selden
and Diane Skelly of West Bloomfield;
daughter and son-in-law, Susan and
Norman Levine of Commerce Township;
grandchildren, Lee and Josh Skelly,
Danielle and Dr. Paul Murphy, Debra
Coppens, Michelle and Michael Weber,
Erica and Jonathan Krause; great-grand-
children, Justin Krause, Riley and Peyton
Weber, Rachel and Helen Murphy, Aiden
and Jonah Krause, Joshua Schumacher;
nephews and nieces, Steven and Mery
Skolochenko, Dr. Michael and Susan

Skolochenko and other loving nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Skelly was the beloved brother of
the late William Skolochenko.

FARRELL LEE YOST, 64, of Minnetonka,

Minn., died Jan. 4, 2008. He was a
salesman at a Toyota Dealership in
Minneapolis.
Mr. Yost is survived by his wife, Carol
Yost; daughter and son-in-law, Shari Yost
Gold and Jason Gold of Washington, D.C.;
grandchildren, Isley and Benjamin Gold;
brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Beverly

Yost of Farmington Hills; nephews and
niece, Robert and Susan Yost, Zachary Yost.
He was the beloved son of the late
Nathan and the late Ruth Yost.

— Israelis marked two
years since Ariel Sharon
was incapacitated by a
stroke.
Marking the second
Ariel Sharon
anniversary of the Jan. 4,
2006 brain hemorrhage
that ended the former prime minister's
career and shook the Middle East, Israeli
newspapers last week published never-
before-seen pictures of Sharon as a child,
while radio stations interviewed his aides
and confidants.

The comatose Sharon, 79, is in a long-
term care ward at Tel Hashomer Hospital,
where a select group of relatives and
friends visit regularly, doctors said. He
is sometimes propped up in front of the
television, eyes open, though he is not
responsive.
During his visit to Israel this week, U.S.
President George W. Bush was expected to
meet Sharon's sons, Gilad and Omri. Omri
Sharon is due to serve a prison term for
a fraud conviction, but his imprisonment
has been delayed repeatedly due to his
father's condition.
Bush hailed Ariel Sharon, a former gen-
eral, as a "man of peace" after he decided
to pull Israeli troops and settlers out of the
Gaza Strip in 2005. But many Israelis now
see that move as having led directly to the
rise of Hamas in Gaza.
