SYLVIA BARAK, 89, of West Bloomfield,
died Dec. 30, 2007.
She was a volunteer at the White House in
Washington, D.C., B'nai B'rith Museum and ,
the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington,
D.C.
Mrs. Barak is survived by her daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Shelly and Joseph
Guggenheim of Bethesda, Md.; sister,
Beverly Weingarden; sisters-in-law, Marlyn
Weingarden, Libbie Weingarden, Shirley
Barak, Rosanne Barak; grandson, Simon
Barak Guggenheim; loving nieces and neph-
ews.
Mrs. Barak was the beloved wife of the
late Dr. Sidney Barak; loving mother of the
late Elliot Barak, the late Perry Barak; dear
sister of the late Melvin Weingarden, the late
George Weingarden; dear sister-in-law of
the late Dr. Money Barak, the late Dr. Stuart
Barak.

SOPHIE BERMAN, 96, of West Bloomfield,
died Jan. 5, 2008.
She is survived by her daughters and
son-in-law, Barbara and Marshall Disner of
West Bloomfield, Maxine Berman of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Robert and
Karen Disner, Lisa and Mark Pinsky; great-
grandchildren, Emma, Rebecca and Jane
Pinsky.
Mrs. Berman was the beloved wife of the
late Meyer H. Berman; dear sister of the late
Joseph Fleishman, the late Ben Fleishman
and the late Doris Levitt.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.

BERTHA BOGNER, 93, former Detroiter of
Fort Collins, Colo., died Dec. 22, 2007. Born
in Bialystok, Russia, in 1914, Mrs. Bogner
immigrated to the United States in 1927. She
lived in Detroit for 65 years before moving
to Fort Collins. Her favorite hobbies were
gardening, sewing and stamp collecting. She
was an active life member of Hadassah.
Mrs. Bogner is survived by her daughters
and sons-in-law, Charlene and Larry Taber
of St. Louis, Mo.; Beverly and Randy Ross
of Fort Collins; Christopher Bacon of Fort
Collins; grandchildren, Jordan and Eli Taber;
Samantha, Cassidy, and Delaney Bacon;
nieces, Barbara Heller, Wendy Fogel, Marcy
Heller Fisher and Vicki Heller.
She was the beloved wife of the late Simon
Bogner; daughter of the late Benjamin and
the late Sylvia Heller; sister of the late Harry
A. Heller.

BRANDI MERLE BORR, 39, a longtime
Chicago resident and internationally known
comedian, died at Illinois Masonic Hospital
on Jan. 4, 2008, after a nine-year journey
with inflammatory breast cancer.
She is survived by her devoted hus-
band, John Domagalski; her loving
mother, Beverly Borr; cherished brother
and sister-in-law, Robin and Rise of
Detroit; mother-in-law, Dee Domagalski;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel
and Jamie; niece, Isabelle Borr; nephews,
Brandon and Danny Jr. Domagalski; aunts,
Ruth Erenhalt and Sharry Weiss, both of
Atlanta, Madge Marie Romine Krawczyk
of South Bend, Ind.; cousin, Julie and her
fiance, Matt Mitchell of Pembroke Pines,
Fla.; cousins, Danny and Patrick Edmonds
and Eileen Cobb, all of Atlanta; many
members of the Romine, Duncan and
Domagalski families; many cherished and
treasured friends throughout the world;
devoted canine companions, Al and Molly.
She was the daughter of the late Irwin.
A memorial service was held at Weinstein
Funeral Home in Chicago. A memorial gath-
ering followed at Emanuel Congregation.

ESTHER CERN, 81, of Oak Park, died Dec.
28, 2007.
She is survived by her husband, William
Cern; nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cern was the loving sister and sister-
in-law of the late Pauline and the late George
Norman.

RONNIE ROSE (SHUR) COHEN, 87,
died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Stanford
University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
She was born in Detroit and moved to Palo
Alto in 2003.
Mrs. Cohen was a 1942 graduate of
Wayne State University in Detroit, major-
ing in education and library science. After
graduation, she taught in the Detroit public
school system. After moving to Oak Park
in 1952, she was a founding member of the
Friends of the Oak Park Library and was
instrumental in establishing a public library
in that community.
For a time, she taught Sunday school
at Congregation Beth Shalom and she
organized Saturday programs both at the
Oak Park Library and at Francis Scott Key
Elementary School.
She is survived by her sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Marshall and Deborah Cohen of
West Windsor, N.J., Ralph Cohen and Susan
Million of Palo Alto, Lawrence Cohen of
Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Marlene
of Cambridge, Mass., Jessica of Los Angles,
Michael of San Leandro, Calif., and Alan of
Boston, Mass.; sister Ethel of Bloomfield
Hills.
Mrs. Cohen's husband of 46 years,
Abraham, died in 1992.

DR. RAYMOND ECHT, 84, of Ann Arbor,
died Dec. 22, 2007. A psychiatrist, Dr. Echt
was an army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his brother, Bernard
Echt; loving sister-in-law, Rita Echt; nieces
and nephews, Brad and Robin Axelrod,
Linda Echt and Jill Ferraresso, Karen Echt
and Michael Bleier, Liz Echt and David
Goldberger, Andrew Echt and Kori Belzer,

Echt, Ronna and Phil Klein, Beth and John
Winograd, Marci Nessenson and Bob
Ginsburg; 12 great-nieces and great-neph-
ews.
He was the beloved son of the late Sam
and the late Rose (Entin) Echt; beloved
brother of the late Wilma Nessenson and
the late Robert Echt; brother-in-law of
the late Lillian Echt and the late Seymour
Nessenson.

JANET E. FINE, 93, of Stamford, Conn., for-
merly of Detroit, died Dec. 28, 2007.
She was a social worker by education and
also served as a secretary to the comman-
dant of Fort Niagara in New York. Mrs. Fine
was a member of Temple Beth El in West
Bloomfield.
She is survived by her sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Richard and Linda Fine of
Connecticut, Robert and Deborah Fine of
Illinois; granddaughter, Sydney Fine; nieces
and nephews.
Mrs. Fine was the beloved wife of the late
Edward Fine; devoted daughter of the late
Sarah and the late Jacob Pierce; loving sister
of the late Max Pierce.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
