Detroit's Draw Young professional trades D.C.'s bustle for hometown feel. Robert A. Sklar Editor J ennifer Glass found herself working amid the tumult in our nation's capital. But she always knew she would move back to Detroit where she grew up and her parents and in-laws still live. "One thing I love about the Detroit Jewish community is the 'close feel' of it:' says Glass, a talent analyst at ePrize, an interactive marketing company in Pleasant Ridge. "Although we have a relatively large community, people work closely together to make a difference. It feels like Reform, Conservative and Orthodox Jews are all part of one community rather than being more segregated?' Glass, 25, is the daughter of Marta and Ben Rosenthal, both on the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit Board of Governors and longtime Federation leaders. In September, Jennifer married Jordan Glass, son of Nancy and Iry Kanat and Linda and Herbie Glass, all of West Bloomfield. Jennifer and Jordan met in 2004 on Federation's Young Adult Division Mission to Israel. They remain active in YAD. Jordan also serves on the Detroit Jewish News' Young Adult Advisory Board. Jewish Influence Jennifer loves that giving back to the com- munity is a Jewish tradition here. "It spans generations;' she said. "It was so important to me to get involved because my parents have been very involved. It is a value in this community that is taught generation after generation:' Her parents instilled in Jennifer a Zionist passion that grew as she attended Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit. Both she and her sister, Rachel, now 28, celebrated their b'not mitzvah in the Jewish state. Jennifer later headed the youth group at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Oakland County and led social action for the Central Region of United Synagogue Youth. She has studied in Israel and taken part in Israel solidarity rallies in America. "In order for our children and our children's children to enjoy Israel," she said, "it is up to this generation to protect the state and the stability of the Middle East!' Washington Impact After graduating Birmingham Groves High School in 2000, Glass attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a bachelor's degree in political communication and a master's degree in political management. "I loved living in a city that impacts the world;' she said. "I lived in D.C. through 9-11, interned in the Senate during the anthrax scares and interned at the White House during the start of the war in Iraq?' From 2004 to 2006, Glass was a GWU Presidential Administrative Fellow during which she helped promote the university while pursuing her master's degree. From 2004 to 2005, Glass worked as a production assistant for the live political debate talk show CNN Crossfire. In 2005, she edited the GWU online alumni news- letter, Colonial Cable. Washington left an indelible imprint on Glass: "I learned who I was as an indi- vidual working in the city and going to school there:' She added, "George Washington was mostly comprised of students from the East Coast, and that made me proud to be from Detroit and appreciate my home- town. I knew that when I chose to get married and start a family, I would move back. Luckily, I found Jordan, who also grew up here and who also values living close to both of our families?' Youthful Hurdles Glass joined ePrize, which has many young workers, in October 2006. Last November, she joined the talent team, °PRIZE IS PROUD TO SPONSOR MEBACK AWARDS.
