SIMON SHAYKHET, who is 27 and single, is

the youngest general-assignment reporter at

WJBK-TV (Fox 2 News) in Detroit. After leav-

ing West Bloomfield, where he grew up, for

Michigan State University, where he earned a

degree in communications, and reporting posi-

tions in Lansing and Toledo, Shaykhet dreamed

of returning to his hometown to bring people the

news of the day. Finally, the dream came true in

June 2006. "Growing up, I remember watching

my favorite local TV-news personalities — now

I have the opportunity to work with some of them," says Shaykhet.

"I like the challenge of telling compelling stories and bringing the

emotion of a story to our audience." Metro Detroit has always held

a special place in Shaykhet's heart. His late mother, Zina Shaykhet,

The Greatest Miracle in the
World by Og Mandino.
The book is about people
and how they don't always
do things to make them-
selves happy in their lives;
they just settle. Whether
it's something with fam-
ily or their career, a lot of
people become content with what they have. Through
the book's main character, an author who undergoes a
major transformation, Mandino reminds readers how
important life is and how everyone can potentially live
the life they want and deserve by applying themselves.

interviews and digging for information, here, we turn the tables and

ask Shaykhet our version of the Four Questions.

IF YOU COULD HAVE BRUNCH WITH
ONE BIBLICAL OR HISTORICAL

JEWISH FIGURE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I would want to sit down with Albert Einstein, who

was responsible for the theory of relativity and so many
innovative ideas. He was a genius, and I've always been
fascinated by people who are great thinkers — who
don't allow the world to influence who they are.
Einstein was someone who chose to be who he was, to
forge new ideas — even if they challenged conventional
thinking.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE JEWISH
FOOD?

Falafel. When I was growing up, my cousin dated
an Israeli woman and she made the greatest falafel.
After that, my mom made it all the time. It's always
been a favorite.

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE
SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU

That I currently own and live in my childhood
home. When I moved back to Michigan to work at Fox
2, I decided to buy a house — and the house I grew up
in was on the market, so I bought it. I've been renovat-
ing it ever since. It's fun to re-do a place where I have
so many good memories, and now I can make new
memories. It has a totally different look. ❑
