WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

rolling into town this month, we thought we'd pay tribute to our city's
role in this spectacular history with a visit to the Henry Ford Museum
in Dearborn, where "Automobile in American Life" is on permanent
exhibition. Including creations by Ford as well as other makers, the col-
lection displays a variety of objects and ephemera, as well as more than
150 cars — from a circa-1902 Ford 999 Racer, made with a wood chas-
sis, to a 1930 French-made Bugatti Royale to the first Mustang ever
produced to the Chrysler DeSoto Airflow, introduced in 1934, pictured
