Sni/M,
arol and Skip Roberts were
honorees at the 30th Gala
Evening at the Movies
sponsored by the Crohn's & Colitis
Foundation of America Michigan
Chapter.
The Nov. 26 event at the Uptown
Palladium Theater in Birmingham
provided a chance for CCFA supporters
to reflect on the past year's accomplish-
ments.
Carol Roberts is a founder of the
CCFA Michigan Chapter and a past
board president. Most recently, she
testified before the Michigan House
Commerce Committee on behalf of
patients requiring immediate access to
restroom facilities, House Bill 5046. She
has served on the organization's board,
been its president and worked on
numerous committees and fundraisers.
She also is active in ORT, the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and
the Detroit Institute of Arts.
"I was taught by my parents to be
charitable and I love to be busy and
helping to make a difference,' she said.
Roberts is retired from a career
in advertising and serves on several
boards.
In 1972, the Roberts' 9-year-old
daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's
disease.
The annual gala is a key source of
revenue to support CCFAs mission to
find a cause and cure for Crohn's dis-
ease and ulcerative colitis. More than
1.5 million people in the U.S. suffer
from these painful gastrointestinal tract
diseases.
Peek from page B4
recommends eating fish twice a week. Salmon, trout and herring are high in
Omega 3 fatty acids and may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Lean cuts
of poultry include white meat without skin, chicken breast and ground turkey.
When selecting beef, look for words such as "round" and "loin." These generally
indicate a leaner cut (e.g., tenderloin, sirloin).
Most important to remember: Moderation is key!
