SIDNEY BERG, 85, of
West Bloomfield, died
Dec. 16, 2007.
Co-owner of Grand
Bell Cleaners for 50
years, Mr. Berg was an
Army veteran of World
War II and served as a
Berg
communication officer,
tank driver and armored
car driver. He served with Gen. Patton
and received many awards including five
Bronze Stars.

Mr. Berg is survived by sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Robert and Gina Berg of
West Bloomfield, Gary and Carolyn Berg
of Bloomfield Hills, Elissa Berg of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Lisa and Rob
Entin, Randy and Erica Berg, Franki and
Jeff Bagdade, Joshua Berg, Zachary Berg,
Ben Michalson and Elizabeth Berg; great-
grandchildren, Sammy Entin and Ruby
Bagdade; sister, Rose Selik; brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law, George and Cecelia

He was the beloved husband of the late
Betty Berg; the devoted father of the late
Richard Berg; the cherished brother-in-law
of the late Burton Selik.

VERA ROLLIN BURKE, 85, of West
Bloomfield, died Dec. 12, 2007.

Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren, Benjamin

RUTH GLASSER, 89, of West Bloomfield,
died Dec. 14, 2007.
She is survived by a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Stephen and Nancy Glasser of
Farmington Hills; daughter and son-in-
law, Eileen and John Wagner of New York;
grandchildren, Robyn Glasser, Dana and
Michael Gorman, Darin and Lisa Glasser,
Debbie and Ron McMahon, Lisa Wagner,
Michael and Denise Wagner; six great-
grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Arthur Glasser.

ADRIENNE GORDON, 68, formerly of
Battle Creek, of Ocean Township, N.J., died
Dec. 12, 2007. She was born in Chicago
and lived in Oak Park, Ill., for 12 years
before moving to New Jersey. She was an
active member of Temple Beth Torah and
a teacher there for 24 years until her retire-
ment in 2003.
Mrs. Gordon is survived by her hus-
band, Michael; sons, Loren of Ocean
Township, Howard of Jersey City, Stuart of
Washington, D.C., Alan of San Francisco;
brother, Kenneth Herst of Houston, Texas.
Services were held at Temple Beth Torah.

late Dr. Louis Greek; the devoted mother of
the late Andrea Turi; the cherished sister

DR. ALEXANDER GRINSTEIN, 89, of
Royal Oak, died, Dec. 11, 2007, after a brief
illness. He was born in Russia and came
with his parents to Buffalo, N.Y. at the age
of 5. Both of his parents were physicians.
He received his bachelor of arts and doctor
of medicine degrees from the University of
Buffalo. He and his wife moved to Detroit
in 1942, where he received his psychoana-
lytic training.
Dr. Grinstein was a practicing psycho-
analyst for more than 50 years. He was
most proud of his clinical work, helping
his patients to achieve fuller, happier lives.
For many years, he was clinical professor
of psychiatry at Wayne State University
in Detroit. He was past president of the
Sigmund Freud Archives in New York
City and of the Michigan Psychoanalytic
Institute.
Dr. Grinstein was a prolific writer and
researcher. He compiled the Index of
Psychoanalytic Writings, which, before the
Internet, was the only way to do research
in the field. He was the author of numer-
ous psychoanalytic books, including On

Sigmund Freud's Dreams, Freud at the
Crossroads, Conrad Ferdinand Meyer
and Freud, and Freud's Rules of Dream
Interpretation. He also wrote psychoanalyt-
ic studies of Beatrix Potter, Wilkie Collins,
and Edwin Arlington Robinson in addition
to numerous essays and papers. His wife,
Adele, worked closely with him on all of his
publications.
His warmth, incredible generosity and
great spirit will be deeply missed by all
who knew and loved him.
Dr. Grinstein is survived by his wife
of 66 years, Adele; loving children, David
and Richard; beloved daughters-in-law,
Christina Camacho and Nancy Taylor;
beloved grandchildren, Eliana (Matthew
Johnston), Mark and Jonathan, Sarah and
Rachel; beloved sister, Louise Richman;
beloved brothers-in-law and sister-in-
law, Irving and Elaine Brotslaw and Don
Scribner.
Contributions may be made to
Beaumont Hospice, 1200 Stephenson Hwy,
Troy, MI or to the Michigan Psychoanalytic
Institute, 32841 Middlebelt, Farmington
