"Mom's happy

new lifestyle."

When dad died, I watched
helplessly as my fun-loving,
outgoing mom stayed home
most nights. When she visited
The Park at Trowbridge,
she quickly saw residents
interacting and enjoying
their time together.

We knew Mom was fully
settled when she stopped
keeping up with her TV
soap operas. She leaves
for breakfast at 8:30 and
sometimes doesn't return to
her apartment until evening.

Stephanie Crawford made a verbal
commitment to play soccer for the
University of Michigan while she was a
sophomore at Novi High School.
After playing just one season for
Debbie Rademacher, the coach who
recruited her, Crawford will be playing
for a new coach next season.
Rademacher, the
only coach in the
U-M women's soc-
cer program 14-year
history, resigned last
month.
"With a new baby
and another young
son, I've decided
to focus on being
at home with my
family': Rademacher
said in a press release.
Crawford, a freshman forward at U-
M, said Rademacher's departure hasn't
affected her that much. "She wasn't
the only reason I came to Michigan':
Crawford said. "I'm not dwelling on her
resignation."
Rademacher's departure came on
the heels of her worst season with
the Wolverines. They finished 3-9-6,
including 1-5-4 in the Big Ten.
Crawford didn't start any of U-M's 18
games this fall, but she played in all of
them. She had one goal and one assist.
"I played about half of each game':
Crawford said. "I hoped to play more,
but it wasn't that bad. I knew that
because I was a freshman, I wouldn't
get too much playing time."
Crawford's parents, Jeff and Libby,
remain happy about her college
choice. "Michigan is the perfect fit
for Stephanie': Libby Crawford said.
"Between the academics, soccer and
social aspects, she's had a wonderful
freshman experience."

17-10 against

best player.

t isn't easy getting selected to the
Michigan High School Tennis
Coaches Association's All-State
Team. Besides success at the state
tournament, All-State criteria includes
variables such as the level of competi-
tion played and sports-
manship.
Three West
Bloomfield High School
boys tennis players
passed the MHSTCNs
muster this fall. They
were named to the
Division I All-State
Team.
Senior Dustin
Goldenberg was one
of 16 singles players selected to the
honor squad. Seniors Scott Jurewicz
and Matt Ruza are among the seven
doubles teams named All-State.
"Making All-State is quite an
accomplishment, especially when you
compete day in and day out against the
talented players in our league (Oakland
Activities Association):' said West
Bloomfield coach Greg Kopec.
Goldenberg, who played No. 1 singles
for West Bloomfield, went 17-10 against
each opponent's best singles player.
Three of his 10 defeats were inflicted
by Division 1 state champion Magnus
Hallahan of Troy, who beat Goldenberg
in the state quarterfinals.
Jurewicz and Ruza, West Bloomfield's
No. 1 doubles team, went 18-10 against
each opponent's best doubles duo. The
new All-Staters advanced to the semi-
finals at the state tournament before
losing a three-set match to the eventual
state champions from Port Huron
Northern.
"Scott and Matt had a great state
tournament': Kopec said.
West Bloomfield overcame several
setbacks to go 6-1 in OAA Division I
duals, finished second in regionals, and
wound up in a three-way tie for sixth
place at the state tournament.
"We played our best tennis of the
year at the state tournament. As a
coach, you can't ask for more than that':
Kopec said.
