of Commerce is a quid
pro quo arrangement.

Ilan Sefton has been a board
member of the West Bloomfield
Chamber of Commerce for a
number of years. It's not just a civic duty
— he thinks he gets as much back in new
business connections as he puts into it.
Sefton has owned his own busi-
ness for six years, working with Marty
Rosenbloom and selling health, life, dis-
ability and long-term care insurance.
Originally from New York, Sefton
earned a master's at New York University
and came to Detroit in 1978 to work for
Metropolitan Hospital's Conner Medical

Center. The hospital and its clinics were
bought by Ford Hospital, then Ford's
Health Alliance Plan and Sefton, now 61,
"retired" after working for Blue Cross/Blue
Shield for 14 years.
Gail Kaplan, another parent from Hillel
Day School, suggested that Sefton talk to
her brother, Marty Rosenbloom. That was
six years ago and Sefton says working for
himself, with Rosenbloom, has been great.
In an effort to meet more prospective
clients, Sefton became involved with the
West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce
(WBCC). It is an association that has prov-
en beneficial to his business and to others.
His wife, Bonnie is a long-time mem-
ber of the chamber. She's owned the UPS
packaging store at Orchard Lake and
Maple roads for 20 years.
The chamber, as far as Sefton is con-
cerned, not only promotes business but
also the community. It may be hosting
a political forum in the coming months
and Sefton was directly involved in two
October events: a business expo to show-
case West Bloomfield businesses and an
