• four questions Lauren Fisher chats with Platinum. WHAT BOOK, CD OR INIOVIE DO YOU LONG TO SHARE WITH OTHERS? Taking the chill out of Michigan's winter nights with the warmth and comfort of luxurious linens is the goal of LAUREN FISHER, co-owner of Bloomfield Hills' fine-linen bou- tique A Touch of Lace. Fisher and business partner Linda Weissman are about to celebrate 20 years of offering more than 100 lines of bed- ding and linens, including Pratesi, Anichini and Matouk, plus down comforters, cashmere throws, table linens, nurs- ery items and more. "We're told we spend one- third of our lives in bed," reads the boutique's Web site. "It's important to concentrate on making your bedroom all you wish it to be." Both Weissman and Fisher — who lives in Bloomfield Hills and has five children with her husband, Phillip, son of the late businessman and philanthropist Max M. Fisher — have traveled the world choosing their products based on quality, value and what they find beautiful. "Our clients usually come to us for happy occasions," Fisher says. "It's a lot of fun to help people." Here, we ask Fisher our version of the Four Questions. — Robin Schwarlz I have found an intrigu- ing Internet music Web site called Pandora [pan dora.com]. It will take your favorite artist and present other musicians within the same genre for you to consider, accept or reject. It actually learns my musical taste and over time offers other artists that I've never heard of. This site opens my ears to other artists that I end up enjoying as much if not more than the original artist. IF YOU COULD HAVE BRUNCH WITH ONE BIBLICAL OR HISTORICAL JEWISH FIGURE, WHO WOULD IT BE? 2 [Israel's fourth Prime Minister] Golda Meir. She was an active Zionist and focused on the growth of the women's labor party in Palestine in the late 1920s and became head of the largest labor union in the 1930s. This ulti- mately took its toll on her marriage and children. She was one of the orig- inal signatories of the State of Israel and acted as the ambassador to Russia from Israel. In 1969, she became the third woman in the world to become prime minister [in Indonesia and India before her] and was in office during the Yom Kippur War. My husband met Golda alongside his late father, Max Fisher, but I did not have the honor. One of the many questions I would ask would be what events could have changed the Holocaust, and what role would she have liked to play? I would also like to know how women in prominent positions were treated in the world during the early 20th century. 3 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE JEWISH FOOD AND WHY? It would have to be potato latkes. The condiments make it a perfect choice. I enjoy watching my children dip them in applesauce and sour cream, sometimes getting more condiments than potatoes into their mouths. Latkes have been a favorite for years, and they remind me of family get-togethers where there are very few left over! 4 WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT. YOU? People would be surprised to know I enjoy riding motorcycles (not as a driver, but as a passenger) with my husband, Phillip. I have been appointed secretary of the interior of our motorcycle "gang," called the J.O.W.s [Jews on Wheels], where my husband is chairman. We took a five-day trip from Detroit to Las Vegas in 1993 and rode for more than 12 hours a day, encountering rain, sandstorms and heat over 110 degrees ... and we still managed to have the trip of a lifetime!
