W
hen you're a kid at camp, the director is pretty much like the presi-
dent of the United States. She's the boss, the big cheese, the one who
ultimately makes the important decisions like, "Will the overnight
still be outside even though it's raining a little?"
"Can I please, please, please have Sarah as my counselor again?"
"Will Cooper the Dog be able to visit camp this year?"
Accessible, friendly, always enthusiastic, the camp director nonetheless
retains a bit of a mystery. She seems to know everything about each and every
camper; but what, really, do campers know about her? Here, eight boys and girls
get to ask their camp director, Forest Levy of the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit, whatever their little hearts desire:

you make it so fun and different every summer?
Rachel Krasner, 8, of West Bloomfield
A: We listen to you and other campers, parents and
staff when you tell us what will make our camp better
and better. I also keep our camp on the cutting edge
with what other camps are doing and offering so that
we have the best one around. There are so many great
new camps this summer! (Rachel, I think you would love the new Advanced
Horseback Riding.)
