Home To Hillel

Day school's event reunites alumini, parents, teachers.

H

illel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit kicked off its 50th anniversary with
an alumni homecoming event that drew more than 350 former students, par-
ents and teachers. Members of the first graduating class and representatives of
nearly every graduating class attended the Nov. 21 event at the Farmington Hills school.
Also warmly received was Menachem Glaser, one of Hillel's first Judaic studies teach-
ers, who taught from 1959-1982.
Many of Hillel's past presidents and former board members, including Saul Waldman,
a founding member of the school, also helped mark this milestone.
"As much as Hillel changes physically it always feels the same when I go back',' said
Jared Boschan, class of 2000. "I just love that school."
Hillel's 50th anniversary celebration will continue throughout this school year, cul-
minating in its jubilee dinner Thursday, May 29, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield. Marcie and Rob Orley will be presented with the Dream Maker Award and
Rabbi Harold and Susan Loss of Temple Israel will receive the Rabbi Jacob Segal Award
named in memory of Hillel's founding rabbi, who began the school with 29 students in
1958.
