these gifts," she said.
Yellan believes that many of these
contributions come from the Jewish
patients of the hospital's Jewish
physicians. The HVSH medical staff
includes at least 125 physicians who
were trained at Sinai and served on its
staff.

The Guild Factor
One of the strongest connections
between Huron Valley-Sinai and the
Sinai of the past is the Sinai Guild.
When the DMC acquired Sinai and
it was merged with the DMC's Grace
Hospital in Detroit, the Sinai Guild,
long known for its strong volunteer
commitment and philanthropic know-
how, became a "guild without walls."
It is affiliated with the DMC and the
Karmanos Cancer Institute but has
maintained special ties with Huron
Valley-Sinai, which has assisted the
Guild with staffing and other support
over the years.
The Guild's president, Rusty
Rosman, lives near the hospital and
speaks highly of it.
The Sinai Guild raises funds for
health care with a special emphasis
on DMC hospitals and researchers as
well as the health needs of the Jewish
community.

The Guild has donated a wide range
of equipment and technology to the
hospital, including a stereotactic
breast biopsy system and an advanced
dual source, 64-slice CT scanner. The
advanced scanner is expected to be
installed in January, housed in the
hospital's DeRoy Imaging Center,
which is being enlarged to accommo-
date it.
The Sinai Guild's bi-annual cancer
benefit, held in October 2007, raised
funds for a radial digital converter to
enhance interpretation of mammo-
grams.
The Sinai Center for Women, an out-
patient diagnostic center at the hospi-
tal, initially focusing on breast health,
was created through a $1 million grant
from the Jewish Fund. Eventually, it
will offer comprehensive health servic-
es for women along with educational
and other resources.
The Sinai name will appear on
a new professional building on the
hospital campus, currently in the plan-
ning stages. In appreciation for the
Sinai Guild's generosity, the facility
will be named the Sinai Guild Medical
Office Building.
"We felt this was where the future
was going;' Harris said. "Jewish indi-
viduals contribute in many ways in the
community — it's our tzedakah."
