DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Director of Development is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation
of all fundraising programs in order to successfully meet annual goals. This position will also par-
ticipate in community events and other programmatic events, which define and initiate fundraising
potential. The position is based in Detroit, serving the state of Michigan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, and manage the annual fundraising campaign by writing the regional development plan;
creating the development budget, monitoring the effectiveness of regional fundraising efforts, and
evaluating the success of the programs.
Organize and implement fundraising events, including corporate and professional dinners, parlor
meetings, and special events.
Identify, cultivate, build, and solidify relationships with new and established contributors; analyze historic
patterns of giving to develop strategies to encourage new gifts and identify new sources of revenues as
well as increase current contributions; directly solicit gifts from major prospects and maintain relation-
ships through mail, phone, or in-person contacts; and solicit grants.
Oversee the administrative support for regional development, including ensuring that donor acknowledge-
ments are completed and appropriate records, prospect lists, and mailing lists are maintained.
Recruit lay leaders for development committees and provide mentoring and staff support to
these committees.
Participate in programmatic events to define and enhance fundraising potential.
Write speeches, press releases, and promotional materials for fundraising events.
Cultivate and maintain community relationships and community outreach.
Contribute in overall regional office planning and goal setting.
Maintain and expand corporate partnership program based on direct solicitation.

QUALIFICATIONS
BA degree, plus additional related college courses or professional training.
5 to 7 years of community fundraising experience in a volunteer environment, including
special events planning.
Knowledge of and a strong commitment to Jewish issues and the mission of the ADL.
Strong organizational, management, and administrative skills, with the ability to multi-task.
Proven ability to solicit and close financial agreements with donors.
Ease in speaking with corporate leaders.
Sound understanding of financial reports and budgeting.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Computer proficiency with word processing (Microsoft Office), spreadsheet, and database
management software.
Willing to travel to National ADL events and to locations within the fundraising area.
