Obituaries Obituaries from page C40 ERIC PAUL "RICK" SIMONS, 52, former Detroiter of Boulder, Colo., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, in a whitewa- ter rafting accident in Honduras. He was born on Oct. Simons 22, 1955, in Detroit to Frank and Lucy Simons. A 1977 graduate of Wayne State University, he married Laurie Jane Bartoletto on Sept. 25, 1977, and moved to Boulder in 1979 after, more than a year of traveling togeth- er through Europe and Asia. He had traveled to more than 60 countries, including a recent month-long safari in Africa and a 30th wedding anniversary river barge and bik- ing trip to Belgium in September. A CPA, he operated his own accounting company, Rick Simons and Associates, and was a trusted adviser to many local busi- nesses and individuals. Always looking for an adventure, even if it was just a weekend bike ride or hike in the Rocky Mountains he loved so much, Mr. Simons loved being out with fam- ily and friends. He was passionate about music, was an avid collector of rock 'n' roll and frequented local music shows as well as traveling to major concerts around the country. A Broncos fan and season ticket holder, he relished the Denver home games. He donated to and volunteered for charitable groups, was active with Congregation Har HaShem in Boulder, cel- ebrating his Jewish heritage. Mr. Simons is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Dan Franklin Simons, 19, and Julia Alexis Simons, 16; mother, Lucy Simons Davis, and stepfather, Larry Davis; sisters, Yonina (Oded) and Alane (Jan); the Bartoletto family, including parents-in- law, A. J. and Anne, and sisters-in-law, Lisa (David) and Nancy; many dear friends. He was the son of the late Frank Simons; brother-in-law of the late Donna Bartoletto. A service was held at Congregation Har HaShem, 3950 Baseline in Boulder; inter- ment at Crist/Mountain View Cemetery. She came to this country in 1923 with her parents and her siblings. She moved to Florida in 1976. She was a member of the Congregation of Reform Judaism or Orlando. Mrs. Wax is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Zena and Daniel Freeman of Orlando; two grandsons; one great- grandson; many Detroit-area nieces and nephews. She was the beloved wife of the late Meyer Wax; daughter of the late Anna and the late Solomon Chinitz; sister of the late Ben Chinitz, the late Sonia Eisenberg and the late Sylvia Goldsmith. MURRAY WEST, 87, of Waterford, died Nov. 15, 2007. He is survived by his son, Thomas West of Colorado; sister, Esther Gruen of White Plain, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jeff West, Manda West, Adam and Brenda West, Thomas West Jr., Alyjah "Dolly" West, Jacob West, Dante West; great-grandchil- dren, Victoria West, Lilly West, Mitch West, Moses West, Tobias West.
