The Mandell L. Berman Administration Building

Cemetery administration building
named to honor longtime trustee.

I

n recognition of local philanthro-
pist Mandell L. (Bill) Berman's
90th birthday and his years of
commitment and service to Clover Hill
Park Cemetery and to Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, the cemetery's board
of trustees has named its new admin-
istration building in his honor.
The recently

on the cemetery
property has
been named
the Mandell
L. Berman
Administration
Building.

Park Cemetery,
2425 E. 14 Mile,
about a half mile east of Woodward
Avenue, in Birmingham stands on 60
acres. The cemetery was opened in
1918 and houses more than 12,500
burials. It is owned by Oakland
County-based Congregation Shaarey

Sign Up Mitzvah Day

Perform a mitzvah on Tuesday, Dec. 25, with the Jewish Community
Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Individuals or families with children, teens, young adults and seniors
can donate a few hours in a choice of activities throughout Metro
Detroit, including visiting nursing facilities, preparing and serving holi-
day meals and delivering toys and gifts to families in need.
Volunteers will meet for breakfast and orientation at the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building, 6735 Telegraph in Bloomfield Township.
Optional carpools have been arranged for transportation to the sites.
Event chairs are Micki Grossman and Jeannie Maxbauer. Volunteers
must sign up online by Dec. 7 at jewishdetroit.org/mitzvanday . No appli-

Zedek and serves the general Jewish
community of the region.
The administration building
was designed by architect Lonnie
Zimmerman of the Southfield firm
Siegel-Tuomaala and Associates as an
element of an overall campus setting
that includes the cemetery's chapel.
The chapel opened in 1921.
Berman has served on the board of
the cemetery for 28 years and as the
chairman of the board of trustees for
nine years.
The Berman family has a long lega-
cy and connection to Clover Hill Park.
Bill Berman's father, Julius, served on
the board from 1945 to 1960.
Bill Berman assumed his father's
seat on the board and, in addition to
being board chairman, chaired the
building and grounds committee. He
also has served on the board of
Shaarey Zedek and was an officer of
the synagogue for 14 years.
Berman also chaired the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek Building
Committee. II
