PEOPLE DROVE UP
wondering if they were at the right place
... It looked more like an automobile show
than an anniversary party ... but they
were at the correct location for Darakjian
Jeweler's 43rd annual celebration ...
More than 800 invited guests came and
strolled during the gala hours, but first
passed a Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini,
Ferrari, Masserati, etc., on display ... Hors
d'oeuvres galore, passed in the jewelry
store and in part of the parking lot com-
pletely covered and enclosed within a huge
tent, sumptuous buffet ... Even guys and
gals walking on stilts, tumblers, magicians,
jugglers, etc., performed on a large raised
platform as a disc jockey worked his corn-
puter for moving songs ... Hundreds of
candles everywhere glittered among the
tables for seating and standing up ... The
Darakjian family, John, Bergy and sons
Ara and Armen, were noticeably moved
by the large attendance and sumptuous
display.
TWO CAP 'N' GOWNER members of
Southfield High's 1967 graduating class,
Ted Simmons and Joel Rosenbaum, were
among those who made it big after gradu-
ation ... Simmons went on to become
a Major League baseball superstar and

general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates
... Rosenbaum was Oscar-nominated with
Quincy Jones in 1985 for Best Original
Score (The Color Purple) ... Southfield
