as needed at Yeshivas Darchei Torah
and Yeshiva Beth Yehudah for the
Opening Doors program of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
In his spare time, he hangs with
friends — some from the old days
— and new ones he's met since he's
returned to the area.
"There's a lot to do here he said.
He's also been able to fulfill a long-
time desire to write and publish a
book geared toward pre-teens.
"I always wanted to write, and I've
been thinking of this idea for five
years:' he said. "So I hired a writing
coach and started to write."
This month his book, The Kidbot

Kaper: Mike and Jessie Meet Their
Match, will be part of the local

author's section of Jewish Book Fair
(through Nov. 18). The book is a fun
look at a sister and brother who are
offered free "kidbots," robots that are
their identical stand-ins. The mis-
adventures are humorous and also
educational.
"There are lessons in there for kids;
that's part of why I wrote the book;'
Betman said. "I wanted them to have
fun reading it and also learn things,
like about honesty, respecting others,

tierrt,&/-cd„,

learning from your mistakes. It was
fun to write, and I'll do more — it's
set up as a series!'
Single and available, Betman says
he's glad to be somewhere familiar,
surrounded by family and friends.
"Detroit is it," he said. "I'm tired of
moving!'
