Joining Forces

Annual dinner brings women from three synagogues together.

M

ore than 100 women enjoyed a
vegetarian kosher buffet, conversa-
tion and presentations on "Seeing
the World Through Jewish Eyes" at the sixth
annual Tri-Synagogue Women's Project dinner
Oct. 29.
The Tri-Synagogue Women's Project aims
to solidify social ties and recognize common
concerns among the women of Conservative
Congregation Beth Shalom, Reconstructionist
Congregation T'chiyah, Reform Temple
Emanu-el, Orthodox Young Israel of Oak Park
and the surrounding community.
At the Oct. 29 event, Ellen Cogan-Lipton
of Temple Emanu-El spoke of her ongoing
relationship with an Israeli medical researcher
she met in Israel after being diagnosed with
multiple sclerosis.
Beth Contorer of Beth Shalom spoke of

traveling to Germany as a student and the
rich relationship she developed with her non-
Jewish exchange family.
Mintzi Schramm of Young Israel spoke
of the challenges of finding kosher food
and an acceptable way of circumventing an
electronic key card system at her hotel while
traveling in Australia so as not to violate the
Shabbat.
The dinner, held at the Jimmy Prentis-
Morris Jewish Community Center in Oak
Park, benefitted the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee.
Tri-Synagogue Women's Project commit-
tee members were Beth Applebaum, Miriam
Ciesla, Contorer, Barbara Goldman, Margery
Klausner, Jodee Fishman Raines, Jennifer
Rube, Terry Selman, Esther Sherizen, Michelle
Sider and Freya Weberman. I
