Front Lines The very best healthcare. We'll help you find it. ECOJudaism Conservation Tips What you can do to stop global warming: • Consider replacing single-pane windows with double pane. Double- glazing generally cuts heat loss by 50 percent. Triple-glazing saves even more. • Keep storm windows and doors in place during the summer months if you use air conditioning. Just as they prevent heat loss, they also prevent heat gain. • Replace leaky windows. • Consider sealing off north-facing windows entirely in winter/cold weather months. • Weather-strip windows and doors conscientiously. Use caulk to seal cracks and holes. • Have an energy audit done for your home and/or business. Jewish Thought on the Environment Tikkun Olam: The perfection/fixing of the world is in our hands. There is a midrash (rabbinic commentary on the Bible) that Jewish environmentalists are fond of quoting: When God created the first human beings, God led them around the Garden of Eden and said: "Look at my works! See how beautiful they are — how excellent! For your sake I created them all. See to it that you do not spoil and destroy My world; for if you do, there will be no one else to repair it." — Midrash Kohelet Rabbah 1 on Ecclesiastes 7:13 Please contact Michigan Coalition on the Environment & Jewish Life for global warming presentations: (248) 642-5393, ext. 7, or mi-coejl®jfmd.org .
