myself, but I traveled to the location of
every other actor and recited the lines
with them:' he said.
Seinfeld extended his research into
a visit to a bee colony where, he said,
the beekeeper failed to give him a
hat and a mask. When the beekeeper
sought to show him the queen bee, the
angry rank-and-file bees came to her
defense; and one gal bee (only female
bees sting) chased him and stung him
on the nose. Fortunately, he isn't aller-
gic to bee stings. Seinfeld recalled the
incident. "After the sting, the guy says,
`If it will make you feel any better, the
bee probably died doing that' Great,
yeah, that makes me feel a lot better."

Manhattan Movie

Bee Movie will clearly play as New York
humor for some people, while others
will see it as Jewish humor.
But is there, in fact, a difference?
"I would ask you the same ques-
tion," Seinfeld said. To me, and this is
biased, all humor is New York Jewish

humor. It started [with] the Marx
Brothers and vaudeville and burlesque
on the Lower East Side, and kind of
grew out from there. I mean, obvi-
ously, from Eastern Europe, and then
really germinated in New York City in
the beginning of the 20th century, and
then started to go out across America,
and then there became different kinds
of humor in America. But the root of
it, to me, is all that, it all starts there."
Seinfeld swiftly squashes the ques-
tion of how far that root can be traced
as we move on into the 21st century.
"It's already gone',' he declares. "It's
already not recognized as that. It's like
any culture or life form, it starts mor-
phing into different things, and then
the original thing is gone." '11
