Going Greet I

Young professionals fight cancer
with an eco-friendly soiree.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGIE BAAN

A green "grass carpet" entrance took the place of
the traditional red carpet as more than 800 sup-
porters of the Karmanos Cancer Institute arrived
at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit for
a chic, earth-friendly event. The Sept. 8 fund-
raiser — replete with cocktails, dinner, dancing,
a raffle and a silent auction — raised $900,000
for the renowned Detroit cancer institute. The
event, called "The Night," sponsored by Partners, ROBIN SCHWARTZ
a group of young professionals committed to raising money to fight
cancer, also honored nationally recognized prostate cancer expert
Dr. Jeffrey Forman and his wife, Miriam, of West Bloomfield for
their commitment and philanthropy. Eco-friendly touches included
recycled paper used for the invitations and program, decorations
made of wheat grass and dishes prepared with organic and locally
grown foods. "Many people have theories that our environment is
causing cancer," said Andrea Morganroth of Birmingham, who co-
chaired the event with Niki Fink of West Bloomfield. "We thought
it would be a wonderful thing to be as eco-friendly as possible." ❑
