The Chapel that recognizes 7'1 each family's individual needs. A Life Of Gratitude ulie Cash Levin had a strong zest for life that strengthened her in a difficult struggle against brain cancer. She maintained a positive attitude throughout four surger- ies and numerous chemotherapies and other treatments. During this time, she authored journals listing hundreds of things she was grateful for. Julie was most grateful for the peo- ple in her life: her lov- ing family and many good friends. Julie, 48, of West Bloomfield, died Oct. 29, 2007. She was born in Detroit on Jan.13, 1959, the first of three daughters. She grew up in Southfield and graduated from Southfield High School in 1977. She attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1981 with her bachelor's degree and imme- diately continued her education at the University of Michigan, where she earned her master's degree in urban planning. She then returned to Southfield, married Jay Levin, and they began their family. Ari and Shelby were still fairly young when Julie went back to school for her master's degree in library sci- ence. This career was her calling as it allowed her to work around her children's schedule while doing what she loved. She spent many years working as the Youth Room librarian at the Bloomfield Township Library. Julie's devotion to her profes- sion stemmed from her love for people. She was always surround- ed by her friends, and it never really mattered where they were or what they did, just that they shared special times together. Her friendships endured for her lifetime and her friends came from all walks of life and from all of her various areas of involvement. Some of these included her pas- sion for exercise, swimming, Israel activities, politics, literature, inde- j pendent films and Scrabble. She also loved to travel. During her educational years, she spent time in Israel at Kibbutz Gezer and lived for a summer in New York City. Later she enjoyed fam- ily vacations, especially annual ski trips with her sons. Throughout her life, Julie maintained a passion for music and she was an accomplished classical pianist. She was also a dog lover and her rescued pets were dear to her. Following her diagnosis, Julie took on the cause of fundraising for the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center in Detroit. She initiated the "Cruisin' for a Cure" event to benefit the center's research efforts, raising more than $10,000 at their inau- gural function. Julie was a warm and caring mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community — but her memory will endure in the hearts and minds of those whose lives she touched. Julie Cash Levin is survived by her sons, Ari and Shelby; par- ents, Dr. Morton and Ruth Lee Cash; grandmother, Phyllis "GG" Hendrick, sisters and brothers- in-law, Ellen and Perri Domm, Dr. Karen and Tom Begres; nephews and niece, Derek and Ethan Wolfe, Talia Begres and Levi Domm; many good friends, including ex-husband Jay and his wife, Andrea. She was the granddaughter of the late Arthur Hendrick, the late Julius Keller, the late Jeanette and the late Harry Cash. Contributions may be made to the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center, Henry Ford Hospital, 1 Ford Place Suite 5A, Detroit, MI 48202, or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel.
