EDWARD RESNICK, 93, former
Detroiter of Boynton Beach, Fla., died
Oct. 1, 2007, two weeks before his
94th birthday.
After serving as an officer in World
War II (he was in charge of a hospi-
tal in England), he moved from his
hometown of Milwaukee to Detroit,
where he opened up Barna-Bee chil-
dren's shops at Northland Center, the
first regional shopping center in the
United States. Eventually Barna-Bee
grew to seven stores located in the
major malls in and around Detroit.
In 1987, he and his wife, Rose,
moved to Florida. While there, he
became locally "famous" for his let-
ters to the editor, which he wrote daily
and submitted via computer to the
Palm Beach Post and the Florida Sun
Sentinel. He also wrote op-ed pieces
that were published in Time, Newsweek,
and the New York Times. He wrote on
all subjects from war and the environ-
ment to the need for traffic lights in
dangerous areas where he lived. Many
people looked forward to reading his
opinions, which were often written
using double entendre and irony.
In addition to his writings, he was
an avid duplicate bridge player and
exercised daily at 5:30 a.m..
Mr. Resnick is survived by his wife

of 65 years, Rose (Cohen) Resnick;
