The Rape of Europa
By Meir Shalev
Yair Mendelsohn is an Israeli tour guide
who hears a curious tale from one of
his American clients. The man had
fought in Israel's War of Independence
and remembered a pigeon handler,
"the Baby," so named for his childlike
features. Yair is then prompted to tell
his own life story, even as the tale of
the Baby, his sweetheart and the birds
who carry love letters between the two,
unfolds.

and curators went on an unforgettable
hunt to find the treasures and return
them to their owners.
