PARTY HIV
AND BALLOON

you don't resist the temptation —
besides, you just had a healthy lunch
at Garnish — to pull into the legend-
ary Guernsey Farm Dairy (21300
Novi Rd., 248-349-1466) for a scoop
— or two, but who's counting — of
what's arguably the creamiest, richest
ice cream for miles around.

Let's dispense with the preliminaries
and get down to the business at hand.
After all, this is shopping country.
In fact, shopping, or more precisely
Twelve Oaks Mall (www.shoptwel-
veoaks.com), put Novi on the map.
And the mammoth mall recently
grew even larger with the opening
of the region's second Nordstrom,
30 additional specialty shops and an
expanded Macy's. Not a bad way to
mark 30 years.
Venture beyond the shopping behe-
moth, though, and you'll find some
pretty great, well ... finds.
Comic book collectors and pop
culture fans of any age can pass the
time in Comic City (43538 W. Oaks
Dr., 248-449-7114). For the tween
and teen crowd, Justice (43526 W.
Oaks Dr., 248-374-8024) offers up
the perfect style quotient, while their
thrifty pals can be found among the
racks at Plato's Closet (43440 W. Oaks
Dr., 248-374-8075) where the cloth-
ing is gently used and the prices are
gentle on the allowance. And when
this economically, but no less fashion-
able, crowd gets a bit older, they'll
most likely be rewarded with impres-
sive bargains from Smart Chick's
Consignment (43039 Grand River,
248-347-1600) and Consignment
Clothiers (42947 W. Seven Mile,
Northville, 248-347-4570).
The owners of High Wire Girls
(25975 Novi Rd., 248-349-2323) must
have had the late songbird Peggy Lee
and her "I Enjoy Being A Girl" in mind
when shopping for the jewelry and
accessories filling the cheery store
— a true browser's dream, as are the
displays of clever kitchen gadgets at
Scottie's Kitchen (149 N. Center, 248-
344-7990).
Conservative or trendy, or any and
everywhere in between, downtown
Northville is becoming known among
fashionistas for its expanding collec-
tion of boutiques. Among the favorites
are Urban Blues (114 W. Main St.,
248-344-9000) for the latest in denim,
men's and women's contemporary
fashions at Dueto (102 E. Main St.,
248-449-4600), high-styled garments

for ladies from Rococo (126 W. Main
St., 248-449-8066), plus fine lingerie at
the European-inspired La Corseterie
(123 E. Main St., 248-449-6603) and
the menswear collections at Fine
Threads (105 E. Main St., 248-349-
5097) or Alexander's of Northville
(124 W. Main St., 248-349-6080).
More choices include the clas-
sic looks for ladies and gents from
Pendleton Shop (117 N. Center, 248-
596-9820) and the women's shoes and
accessories at Lorla (142 N. Center St.,
248-348-9270).
Shopping for the home means mak-
ing a pass through Petite Maison
(103 E. Main St., 248-348-9710) or

creating something special at do-
it-yourself pottery shop The Bee's
Knees (141 E. Main St., 248-347-
6718).

EVENTS

From a seasonal farmer's market to
art shows and home tours, the city of
Northville (www.downtownnorthville.
com) and its chamber of commerce
(www.northville.org) fill the calendar
with an outstanding array of special
events and programs. Likewise, the
city of Novi (www.ci.novi.mi.us ) and
its chamber of commerce (www.novi-
chamber.com), promise year-round,
eclectic programming.
