premier public automotive archive.
Also in the neighborhood, Biegas

ENTERTAINMENT/
HANGOUT
Plays, musicals, concerts, ballet,
operas and comedy acts, plus big
league sporting events, draw crowds
year-round to this Woodward cor-
ridor. Even those without a Woodward
Avenue-proper address benefit from
its adjacency, including Music Hall
Center for the Performing Arts
(350 Madison, 313-963-2366) Detroit
Opera House (1526 Broadway,
313-961-3500) and Gem Theatre
(333 Madison, 313-963-9800), plus
PuppetART (25 E. Grand River, 313-
961-7777), where puppets, not actors
or actresses, rule the stage. Puppetry-

related shows are held every Saturday
afternoon at 2:00 from September
through May.
Show houses fronting Woodward
include the fabulous Fox Theatre

the Fillmore (former State Theater)

Max M. Fisher Music Center and
Orchestra Hall (3711 Woodward,
313-576-5111), home to the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, as well as Wayne

pany, which takes to the stage at the

The NFL's Detroit Lions earn a liv-

Tigers take to the diamond next door

More than just greenery and a
place to sit back and contemplate the
world, Campus Martius (www.cam-
pusmartiuspark.org ) hosts year-round
programming, including free concerts,
movies and ice skating, plus robust
gardens, restored historic monuments,
