r. Herbert Lee
Hertzberg, 84, of Detroit
and Chapala, Mexico,
died Sept. 28, 2007.
He was a graduate of Central
High School, attended Detroit's
Wayne State University
Engineering School and became
a building contractor. He later
graduated dental school at the
University of Michigan.
He had a private practice and
also taught at the University
of Detroit Dental
School while pro-
viding free dentist-
ry for Russian refu-
gees through the
Jewish Community
Center.
Dr. Hertzberg
was a president
Herbert Lee
of Alpha Omega
Hertzberg
Dental Fraternity
and a veteran of
World War II in the Army Air
Corps. He had numerous hob-
bies, among them racing small
hydroplane boats and piloting a
private plane. He built airplane
models, including remote control
devices; he also built a radio
receiver. He enjoyed sports,
especially racquetball and hand-
ball; and had a love of travel.
Dr. Hertzberg retired to
Guadalajara, Mexico, and was a
dental volunteer for the poor.
He is survived by his wife
of 64 years, Eleanor Pershin
Hertzberg; daughters and
sons-in-law, Nancy and Gerald
Feldman, Barbara and Jay
Nowak; grandchildren, Andrea
Alter (Channa Galhenage),
Geoffrey Alter (Erica Sykes),
Jason Nowak, Renee Nowak;
great-grandchildren, Jonah
Alter, Anais Alter-Galhenage;
brother and sister-in-law, Stuart
and Marilyn Hertzberg.
He was the loving brother of
the late Babs Geller; dear broth-
er-in-law of the late Harvey
Geller.
Interment was in Chapala,
Mexico. Contributions to the
American Cancer Society, 18505
W.12 Mile, Southfield, MI 48076.
