Sarah Mountain, 25, is an associate
for Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education. She met Charnas when he
hired her to join the staff of the 2006
teen mission. She remembers him as a
strong role model for the impression-
able teens.

Mountain says. "At the same time, he
was very approachable to all the teens
on the trip."
When the war intensified, she said,
"he remained level-headed and calm
and led by example, encouraging the
