Boycott motions were defeated in
the Association of Union Teachers
in 2003 and, though a motion was
able to pass in 2005, it was over-
whelmingly overturned at a special
council of the union following an

This summer, the National Union
of Journalists scrapped a motion to
boycott Israeli goods in the wake of

Bereavement Support

The National Council of Jewish
Women, Greater Detroit Section—
SPACE for Changing Families and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek are
offering an eight-week bereavement
support group for adults grieving
the death of a spouse or partner.
The group will meet once a week
on Tuesdays from Oct. 9-Nov. 27,
from 7-9 p.m. A trained and car-
ing facilitator will lead the group,
providing a safe atmosphere for
participants to share and discuss
the issues involved in grieving the
death of a spouse or partner.
This is not a drop-in group; on
needs to attend all eight sessions.
There is no charge; however, dona-
tions are appreciated.

A free course on learning to read
Hebrew in eight Thursday night ses-
sions starts Oct. 11 in Birmingham.
Class time is 7:30 p.m. at 1578

The course is open to the corn-
munity and runs through Dec. 13,
with no classes Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.
