BEATRICE RICE, 90, of Berkley, died
Sept. 23, 2007.
She is survived by her sons and daugh-
ter-in-law, Jack Rice of Berkley, Michael
and Marilyn Rice of West Bloomfield;
sister, Goldie Goldin of Windsor, Ontario,
Canada; grandchildren, Sherry Muffins,
Erica and Chris Gray, Meredith and Josh
Ben, Evan and Zoya Rice, Justin Rice; four
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rice was the
beloved wife of the late Ralph Rice.

JOYCE CUTLER RISIN, 94, of Southfield,
died Sept. 23, 2007.
She is survived by her sons and daugh-
ter-in-law, Michael and Diane Cutler
of Commerce Twp., Steven Cutler of
Southfield; granddaughter, Kelley (Victor)
LeSage; great-grandchildren, Sydney and
Jesse LeSage.
Mrs. Risin was the beloved wife of the
late Nat Risin and the late Albert Cutler.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.

JAY F. SAND, 66, of West Bloomfield, die
d Sept. 18, 2007.
For more than 20 years, he was a man-
ager and assistant manager at Franks
Nursery. He had a master's degree in his-
tory and geology.
Mr. Sand is survived by his brother and
sister-in-law, Donald and Nancy Sand
of California; sister and brother-in-law,
Fayclare and Dr. Robert Blau of Bloomfield
Hills; nephews and nieces, David and Risa
Blau, Randy and Michelle Blau, Michelle
and Keith Lissak, Laura and Daniel
Friedman.
He was the beloved son of the late Dr.
Harry and the late Mildred Sand.
Interment at Beth El Memorial Park.

HERSCHEL LEIB SCHLUSSEL, M.D., 70,
of Southfield, died Sept. 13, 2007.
He was diplomate of the American Board
of Ophthalmology, practicing in Garden
City. He was a graduate of Detroit Central
High School, Wayne State University and
the WSU Medical School. He proudly served
as a captain in the Army.
Dr. Schlussel gave free
medical care to Vietnam
veterans and he aided
Soviet Jewish refuseniks.
He was a member
of Young Israel of Oak
Park and Congregations
Shomrey Emunah
Schlussel
and Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield. He was a
member of the Zionist Organization of
America, Religious Zionists of America,
Bnei Akiva, JINSA and CAMERA.
He is survived by his wife, Toby; chil-
dren, Debbie Schlussel of Southfield,
Susan (Jeffrey) Meyers of New Rochelle,
N.Y., Judith (Matthew) Goldsmith of
Englewood, N.J., Irvin Schlussel, New York;
grandchildren, Elliott, Marilyn, Joseph and
Isabelle Meyers, Bella, William and Molly
Goldsmith; brother, Mark (Rose Lynn)
Schlussel of Southfield.

many loving nieces, nephews, other family

He was the dear son of the late Morris
and the late Anna Weberman; brother
of the late Sarah Taylor, the late Edythe
Swartz and the late Gertrude Feldman.
