A crowd of 5,000 to 7,000 Christians
is expected for the week, and they will
find one of each kind of LifeShield
shelter outside the convention center
as part of the fundraising effort. Cox,
fellow broadcaster Ben Kinchlow and
Atlanta-area Israel Always organizers
Scott and Karen Allen will be among
the American Christians promoting
Operation LifeShield at the Feast of
Tabernacles.
The Aliens participated in an Israel
Always mission to the front lines
during the Second Lebanon War and
had to huddle in a bathtub during a
Katyusha missile attack, so they can
share the experience of what it's like
not to have a proper shelter.
Most of the Christians at the Feast
of Tabernacles will be from Europe,
Cox said.
"Those people who come there may
be of different denominations, but
they're all there because of a love of
Israel," Kinchlow said.

The Feast of Tabernacles observance,
which the International Christian
Embassy Jerusalem has held for 27
years, is a source of controversy this
year after a committee appointed by
the Chief Rabbinate barred Jews from
participating in the Sukkot parade or
events at the convention center for fear
that Christian missionaries would use
the occasions to proselytize.

The Christian Embassy denied the
charge. "The ICEJ has never conducted
any missionary programs in Israel,
and we clearly instruct our feast pil-
grims against such activity during
their stay here said the Rev. Malcolm
Hedding, the embassy's executive
director.
"It's not a religious thing:' Cox said.
"They are there for Israel ... They
bring money. They bring help of all
kinds. They feed people and meet the
various needs of poor people
Feast pilgrims have already con-
tributed $10,000 for shelters; Cox is
optimistic for a huge week of fund-
raising.
"I don't want commitments," Cox
said. "Commitments are great, and I
know it takes time; but people who
want to help need to stand up now."
He said the need is urgent in the
south in Sderot and Ashkelon and in
the north, but threats from Iran put all
of Israel at risk.
"I feel so sorry for Israel and its
people every day:' said Cox, who will
participate in a news conference for
LifeShield this Sunday at the Feast of
Tabernacles. "Israel will have protec-
tion for her people."
