He was a Detroit Public School teacher, principal and administrator who earned his bachelor of arts in sociology from Wayne state University, his master's from Teachers College at Columbia University and his educa- tional doctorate degree in curricu- lum development from Wayne State University. He served as an instructor at University of Detroit (1957-1964) and at Wayne State University (1964-1983). He also served as a teacher and later as a supervisor at Temple Israel's reli- gious school. He was also a member of the National Reading Association. Dr. Karbal is survived by his wife, Pauline Karbal; daughter, Gail Margie Karbal of Southfield; son and daugh- ter-in-law, Stuart and Kelley Karbal of Florida; grandchildren, Seth and Carly Karbal; brother, Carl Karbal of Southfield. He attended Wayne State University, where he was a star foot- ball player and Katz a member of a fraternity. He was also a health education teacher in the Detroit Public Schools and was the first swimming coach for the Jewish Community Center. Mr. Katz was a decorated war vet- eran of World War II, having received the Bronze Star. For over 40 years, he was a partner with Lee Saperstein in the real estate business. Every Tuesday, for 60 years, he met with friends to play cards. Mr. Katz is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice Katz of West Bloomfield; daughters and sons-in- law, Marsha and Harry Eisenberg of Orchard Lake, Minda and Nachman Kataczinsky of Las Vegas, Nev.; grand- children, Emily and Jennifer; brother and sisters-in-law, Nathan and Esther Katz of West Bloomfield, Edith Katz and Natalie Lankin. He had a lifetime appreciation for clas- sical music, playing the violin since childhood and pursuing violin lessons into his 70s. Mr. Klein is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Pearl (Fishbein); son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Susan Klein; grandchildren Rachel and Joseph.
