amity was always first and
foremost to Allen Gross.
When he was a 15-year-
old student at Mumford High in
Detroit, Allen joined his father and
grandfather in the family business,
Midwest Fire Adjusters. Today,
three of his own children continue
at what is now Globe Midwest-
Adjusters International, based in
Southfield.
Mr. Gross' children learned well
from his good example. He adored
his wife of 31 years, Jane — they
remained "newly-
weds" until the day
he died. Together,
they raised five young
children in a blended
family with uncondi-
tional love, equality
and acceptance. All of
their children married
and reside within 10
miles of each other.
As "Zayde," Mr.
Allen Gross
Gross was loved and
admired by his 13
grandchildren. He served as sondek
for his 10 grandsons, holding them
during their britot milah (ritual
circumcisions). He would always
have time for them no matter how
busy he was at work. He enjoyed
many family vacations, often taking
all 25 members of his brood. Mr.
Gross recently was in the process
of planning a family trip to Israel.
He always checked in daily with
his children to get the update of
events.
Allen Gross, of Orchard Lake,
died of leukemia Sept.11, 2007, at
age 66. He was the oldest son of
the late David and the late Shirley
Gross. Allen learned the value of
family from his mother, to whom he
remained devoted until her death
in 1998. He also remained close
throughout his life to his siblings
— Sherrie Stern, Toby Katz and
Marc Gross — and to his childhood
friends.
Mr. Gross' business began
with four employees. In 1984,
he was president of the National
Association of Public Insurance
Adjusters and served on its board
of directors until his death. In 1987,
he formed a merger with Robert
Levin to create Globe Midwest,
which now employs more than 30
individuals. For the past 20 years,
Mr. Gross remained president of the
company and was honored to have
children Carl, Ethan and Eden work-
ing with him.
Mr. Gross remained active in
monitoring insurance legislation for
Michigan and the Midwest, which
protected the rights of the insured.
He was loved and respected by his
employees, clients and the insur-
ance industry at large.
Mr. Gross was a longstanding
member and supporter of Adat
Shalom Synagogue
in Farmington Hills,
of which his grandfa-
ther was a founding
member. He enjoyed
many family simchahs
there, including wed-
dings, b'nai mitzvah
of children and grand-
children, baby namings
and britot milah. He
was also a generous
supporter of many
other organizations
including Friendship Circle, Yeshiva
Beth Yehudah, Chabad-Lubavitch
and nal B'rith.
Mr. Gross enriched the lives of his
family and will be truly missed by
all who knew him.
Allen Gross is survived by
beloved wife, Jane. He was the lov-
ing father of Carl (Kristen) Gross ,
Ethan (Yael) Gross, Elizabeth (Dr.
Howard) Manela, Lisa (Jordan)
London, Eden (Ivan) Glasser; dear-
est brother of Marc (Pauline)
Gross of San Diego, Calif., Sherrie
(Norton) Stern and Toby (Ronald)
Katz; devoted brother-in-law of
Diane and Robert Oswald of Ohio,
Richard and Gladys Rasmussen;
dearest grandfather of Joshua,
Hannah and Zachary Manela, Ben
and Jessica London, Sarah, Jacob,
and Seth Gross, Lenny, Max and
Jack Gross, Brandon and Daniel
Glasser. He also is survived by lov-
ing aunts and uncles, many cousins,
countless nieces and nephews and a
world of friends.
Interment was at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions
may be made to the Friendship
Circle, the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements by Hebrew Memorial
Chapel.
