nswer: Dear Elyse, Arti-
ficial sweeteners are food
additives that attempt to
duplicate the effects of sugar in
taste, but with less calories. Typi-
cally, this is achieved via increased
"intensity" of the sweetness factor;
hence, they are often referred to as
"high intensity" sweeteners.

or Sweet One).

I'll have much more on
artificial sweeteners next time.

OK, what's up with the different
pictures lately, you (and others)
ask? The truth: multiple person-
alities (just kidding). Actually,
it's a long, semi-sad story involv-
ing outdated photos, the column
switching to color, and trying to
get by with existing photos in an
effort to avoid sitting still for a new
one. Let's just say (hopefully) I
won't be changing my photo again
anytime soon.
