Triple Bombing Foiled
Jerusalem/JTA
Israeli security forces
foiled a multiple bombing planned for
Tel Aviv. Troops stationed outside the
West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday
caught a Palestinian youth who tried to
smuggle three bombs through a mili-
tary checkpoint. Israeli security sources
said the explosives were to be used for
attacks in Tel Aviv. It was not imme-
diately clear which terrorist group was
behind the alleged plot.
Shin Bet director Yuval Diskin told
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's Cabinet
during its weekly session Sunday
that Hamas, which seized control of
the Gaza Strip in June, is trying to
build up its forces in the West Bank to
resume terrorist attacks from that ter-
ritory against Israelis.

Bin Laden: We're Not Nazis
Washington/JTA —Osama bin Laden
rebuked a former Jewish adviser to
President Bush for comparing the
threat of Islamist terrorism to the
Holocaust.
In his latest video, the Al Qaida
leader cites Richard Perle, the former
chairman of the Pentagon's Defense
Policy Board, who wrote of the terror-
ist threat in 2004: "There is no middle
way for Americans: It is victory or
holocaust."
Bin Laden called this "unjust" and
said in his video released last week
and addressed to Americans, "The
morality and culture of the Holocaust
is your culture, not our culture. In fact,
burning living beings is forbidden in
our religion, even if they be small like
the ant, so what of man.
"The Holocaust of the Jews was car-
ried out by your brethren in the mid-
dle of Europe; but had it been closer to
our countries, most of the Jews would
have been saved by taking refuge with
us. And my proof for that is in what
your brothers, the Spanish, did when
they set up the horrible courts of the
Inquisition to try Muslims and Jews,
when the Jews only found safe shelter
by taking refuge in our countries.
"And that is why the Jewish com-
munity in Morocco today is one of
the largest communities in the world.
They are alive with us and we have not
incinerated them, but we are a people
who don't sleep under oppression
and reject humiliation and disgrace,
and we take revenge on the people of
tyranny and aggression, and the blood
of the Muslims will not be spilled with
impunity, and the morrow is nigh for
he who awaits."
Morocco's Jewish population is less

than 20,000 and has been targeted in
recent years by Al Qaida.

Synagogue Seats On eBay
Miami Beach/JTA Two lifetime front-
row seats to services at a Miami Beach
synagogue are being auctioned off on
eBay, with bids starting at $1.8 million.
The winning family's name will be
engraved on Seats 1 and 2 of Row 1,
Section DD, at Temple Emanu-El, the
Associated Press reported.
The winner also will receive free
parking, two custom-made tallitot and
yarmulkes, as well a tax write-off. The
seats can be passed down to family
members.
"It's a gift that goes from one gen-
eration to another;' said Rabbi Kliel
Rose, who came up with the concept
with the help of two congregants who
work in advertising and marketing.
The auction ended Monday morning,
three days before the High Holy Days,
but as of Saturday evening no one had
bid. Rose said the auction was more
about gaining the attention of discon-
nected Jews.
Temple Emanu-El, a 1,400-seat
Conservative congregation, was
founded in the 1940s on South Beach.
It once had thousands of members but
not now has about 200 families.

Stabbing Fuels Debate
Berlin/JTA
The day after a knife
attack against a rabbi in Frankfurt,
a German Jewish leader sought to
extend "no-go areas" beyond eastern
Germany.
"Given the increasing acts of
violence against minorities here in
Germany, you have to ask yourself
if the discussion about `no-go areas'
shouldn't apply beyond the eastern
parts of Germany to other areas:'
Charlotte Knobloch, head of the
Central Council of Jews in Germany,
said in a statement Saturday.
Knobloch was referring to the con-
troversial debate about whether cer-
tain areas in the former East Germany
are truly dangerous for those who
appear to be non-German. A spate
of attacks on people of African and
Indian background prompted renewed
discussion on the issue.
The rabbi, 42, was reported in stable
condition with injuries that are not
life-threatening. The attack took place
late Friday night. The victim described
his attacker as a "Mediterranean type"
who spoke Arabic. He reportedly said
something in Arabic, threatened to kill
the rabbi and then stabbed him in the
stomach.
