the clock and there are new commen-
taries by journalist Matthew Kelman,
there are small segments of special-
interest presentations. Viewers, at any
time, can make a myriad of choices
— from choruses performing holiday
music to Mel Brooks discussing how
his skits got off the ground.
Sanderson did not enter Jewish pro-
gram-ming because he was particularly
religious or observant.
"I believe deeply in Judaism, and I
am a very spiritual person:' explains
Sanderson, who earned a bachelor's
degree in film at Syracuse University.
"I categorize myself as someone
who cares deeply about what it means
to be Jewish and what we as a people
have to offer ourselves and others."
To satisfy diverse ethnic interests, Web
site development involves looking at
audiences from different perspectives.
The singles point of view, for
instance, is resulting in an agreement
with J-Date to present videos. Political
interests, he hopes, will be met with
candidates for office addressing issues
relevant to the Jewish community.
A first step in making the site inter-
active is encouraging people to post
their comments.
"The last component, which hasn't
launched yet, has to do with the
YouTube generation',' Sanderson
explains. "A lot of people like to go to
the Web and put on their own videos."
Besides inviting site users to present
topics important to them, the site will
have contests so that people can be

part of a larger expression.
To help with future additions,
Sanderson has been studying the
nature of daily site visitors.
Although finding that people cur-
rently spend an average of 12 minutes
with each connection to the Jewish
Television Network, Sanderson has
plans for enlarged programming
within the next year. Viewers will be
able to access feature-length films and
documentaries.
"The main information I'm looking
at is what are the pieces that are reso-
nating so we know what new things
to add;' Sanderson says. "We're get-
ting a tremendous number of people
from Scandinavia and Australia. I was
amazed to see about a dozen people
from Saudi Arabia."
Sanderson wants the site to be easy
to navigate.
"I've felt for a long time that I was
like Moses in the desert," he explains.
"I've been alone in a lot of ways try-
ing to motivate and inspire the Jewish
community to understand the power
of the media in terms of all the issues
that we find important.
"I feel gratified that all the things
I believed in as somebody who came
from the media into the Jewish world
are coming true. I feel that everything
I've done over these years is all worth
it." I I

"I would do hundreds of them every
day, and large crowds would gather
to watch. Initially, it was a show, but I
didn't sell the show. I was selling my
artwork. Now, I'm booked all over the
world for the show."
Israel travels with a stage manager
to look after the setting and the tech-
nical side of the performance. The
painting he completes at the DIA gala
will be sold via an auction.
Israel leaves the finished DIA reno-
vation to be in the midst of ongoing
personal property renovation.
"I just bought a home" in Florida, says
the single performance artist, whose
work can be previewed at his Web site,
www.michaelisrael.com."I have con-
struction workers building an art studio
and a film studio.
"I train pretty heavily — weight
training and martial arts — just to
stay in shape, and I'm fortunate that
there's a dance studio and a hardcore
fitness studio in the same complex.
"The new home is across the street

size workout facility that includes a
