THE LIST Is Back!

A

fter a two-month absence ... the list is back!
The JN's weekly Synagogue List – the most compre-
hensive compilation of synagogues and Jewish services in
Michigan – has returned to the print edition of the Jewish News.
The list's reinstatement was much to the relief and delight of the
many JN readers who depended on it for the times of weekly services
and daily minyans.
Economics limit our news space – the amount of news and infor-
mation we can bring you each week. That's where Temple Israel of
West Bloomfield stepped up to the plate. The temple has agreed to
be the weekly sponsor of the list, which includes the Conservative,
Independent, Orthodox, Reconstructionist, Reform, Renewal, Secular
Humanistic, Sephardic and Traditional streams of Judaism.
The JN's statewide list of 80 synagogues and minyans benefits
both regular and occasional synagogue goers as well as mourners and
travelers. It also serves as a key reference point for local Jews want-
ing explore other streams of Judaism or other synagogues within their
streams. It's a place where every congregation, no matter how large or
small, gets weekly exposure to the Jewish community.
To celebrate the Synagogue List's return, we've created a new
Spirituality section, which includes the Torah Portion, the Lubavitch-
inspired Thought Of The Week as well as stories and short items on
religious life. Our popular Shul Food feature, detailing catered events
open to the public at synagogues, will continue to run with our "Check
It Out!" calendar in the To Do! section.
The Synagogue List will continue to be accessible each week on our
Web site, JNonline.us.
We invite your comments, as always! Please write us or send an e-
mail to: letters®thejewishnews.com .

Dear
Bar ,
is is
basic—you talk
about nutrition
all the time, but
what exactly is
nutrition? A Mahjong group.

A

nswer: Dear Mahjong
group, That's actually a
very good question.

Technically speaking, nutrition is
generally defined as the science
or study of nutrition, especially
in humans. The focus of nutri-
tion is to examine the relationship
between diet and health. It's also
_, the process by which organ-
isms assimilate and utilize
food. A food is said to be
:(:,
nutritional if the quality of
the food or eating behavior
, provides nourishment.
t.
Dietitians are health
professionals who
specialize in the study
of nutrition, and are
trained to provide safe,
1/' evidence-based dietary
advice and interventions

Having devoted a good portion
of my adult life to learning about
human nutrition and trying to help
others adopt beneficial nutri-
tional behaviors, I probably have a
broader view than most about what
nutrition is and what role it ought
to play in our daily lives.

For me, nutrition is also about
rejuvenation, transformation (or
as I like to put it, "moving your
fixed scale"), being proactive about
health, commitment to sound be-
haviors, accountability, and, most
of all, a sense of joy about living.
