Couple, Happy Days and Laverne and
Shirley, lives in Farmington Hills now,
but he continues to pursue his pen-
chant for the funny line in the plays he
writes and directs.
Rothman recently presented his
play The Wearing of the Greens at the
Starlight Theatre in Waterford. Now,
he is about to stage his new two-char-
acter romantic comedy, Who Wants
Fame?, at the same venue.
Like its inspiration, the film A Star
Is Born, this comedic take on the
dramatic original features an actress
on the rise married to a man whose
career is on the decline. Set in 1988
and 1989, the action take place in a
high-rise apartment that overlooks the
"Hollywood" sign.
Rotating in the roles of Earl Perkins

and Patty Clark in different combina-
tions are four performers: married-
in-real-life actors Walter and Andrea
Briggs, Mike Brody and Marie Klaban.
With the exception of Brody, all the
actors appeared in The Wearing of the
Greens.
Who Wants Fame? will be per-
formed 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 4 and 7:30
p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays,
Sept. 7-23, at the Starlight Theatre
(located inside the Summit Place Mall
between Kohl's and Claire's). Rothman
will be available to answer questions
after each performance.
Tickets: $14 general admission, $12
seniors, $10 students. Reservations:

Handler Holds On

Comedian Chelsea Handler's E!
cable talk show, Chelsea Lately
(airing weeknights
at 11:30 p.m.), is
better than most
of the junk TV
news shows about
celebrities. While
she isn't quite as
Chelsea
clever as Sarah
Handler
Silverman, Handler
does amusingly savage the foi-
bles of celebrities.
Handler, who appeared at
Meadow Brook Music Festival last
month, has some "D"-list celebs

on her show, but the real action
is when she, and some regulars,
review the daily goings-on of
the "beautiful people" and make
catty remarks.
The 32-year-old Handler, a very
attractive blonde, is the daughter
of a Jewish father and a Mormon
mother. She was raised Jewish
and was bat mitzvah.
Handler told the Cleveland
Jewish News in 2004 that she
considers herself a Reform Jew.
"I go to synagogue on the High
Holidays," she said. "When I go
home, I try to go to a [Shabbat]
service with my father."
Handler, who formerly hosted
Girls Behaving Badly on Oxygen,
seems to have clicked with her
E! program. It began in July and
was only supposed to run for six
weeks, but it's earned such good
ratings that it was just renewed
until the end of the year.
