Debra Darvick of Birmingham said her
daughter, FJA graduate Emma Darvick,
still talks about the school and its exem-
plary teachers.
"Emma is in college now, and her class-
mates often have questions about Judaism
and Jewish life. Emma has answers,"
Darvick said. "She is able to educate them
from a place of solid knowledge and
unwavering passion!'

The Darvicks have never regretted their
involvement with the Academy, she said,
even though the school was in its infancy.
"The teachers here are absolutely com-
mitted," said Dr. Renee Wohl, FJA profes-
sional development director. "They are
always learning, very approachable to the
students; the students feel the teachers are
people they can learn from and love.
"It's a wonderful community," said

Jeff Appel, whose son, Sam, is a 12th-

school."
"When Sam said he wanted to go here,
I said, 'Are you nuts?"' Appel remem-
bered. "It's a long drive from our house in
Huntington Woods, but it's worth it. Now

his cousin comes here, too."
As the mother of two FJA graduates,
Barbara Horowitz of West Bloomfield feels
confident that the school is destined to do
great things.
"We are educating the future leaders of
the Jewish community:' she said.
