ou dream the design and he turns it into reality.
Tal Siegmann and his Designwood studio in Southfield are all about
the customers, who are given the freedom to customize all of their

furniture.
Siegmann designs every furniture piece imaginable, from tables to rocking
horses to cabinets, all in beautiful exotic woods. Have an idea? He will come to
your home and discuss it with you.
"Some people will come with a general idea of what they want and then I meet
them at their house and we start a dialogue process where I get a feel for what
they want and what they are looking for. Then I start the design process!"
He also does all of the construction.
Beautiful designs are only made possible with beautiful woods, and Siegmann
is specific about the materials he uses. The customer chooses everything, from
the colors of the wood to the textures. And the choices are nearly unlimited. With
options such as walnut, walnut burl, maple, cherry, makore, mahogany and ani-
gre, the pieces become very personal.
"I buy most of my wood out of state at specialty outlets around the country
that specialize in the materials I deal with and I also buy some locally. I like
more exotic woods — that's what I love to do. I like wood in its natural form, not
changed or anything."
Since unique and different are Siegmann's style, his extraordinary pieces can
be found throughout the community.
Siegmann was born in Cleveland and grew up in Israel. He returned to the
United States to go to school and met his wife here. Building and design have
always been a hobby of his and he finally decided to pursue it as a career.
Since his designs are custom made, the prices tend to vary. Because there are
so many options and styles, there is no typical price for any of Siegmann's pieces.
Some furniture designs can take one week to complete while others can take up
to 16. I I
