Panthers Prowl
Counting practices and five games,
the North Farmington West
Bloomfield U8 Panthers spent 16
hours in two steamy days on the
baseball diamonds at Carman-
Ainsworth Junior High School in
Flint. The hard work in the hot
weather was worth it. The Panthers
captured the 8-year-old division
championship in the Panthers
Classic.
After coming from behind with
two runs in the bottom of the sixth
and final inning to defeat nemesis
Commerce Lakes 11-10 in the
semifinals, the Panthers pummeled
the Clio Mustangs 26-8 in the title
game.
"Our kids didn't realize how hot
and tired they were until after the
tournament was over;' said assis-
tant coach Kevin Taylor.
Players Jacob Taylor, Max
Rosenfeld, Dov Seifman and
David Vinsky all contributed to
the championship. The Panthers'
Jewish contingent also included
assistant coach Brian Seifman.
Jacob Taylor batted .612 and
didn't strike out once during the
Panthers' 19-game season (they
finished 10-8-1). Rosenfeld hit
three homers and Dov Seifman
batted .500.
Vinsky's triple drove in the win-
ning run against Commerce. He
smacked eight home runs and hit
.450 during the season while play-
ing flawlessly at first base.
